Cohesion policies and Road Safety: a Data Card

14/11/2024

OpenCoesione publishes a Data Card dedicated to cohesion policy interventions to promote road safety, in the face of statistics that in our country show a number of 3,039 people were killed in road accidents in 2023. In addition to motorists, those who lose their lives include many ‘weak users’ of the road, like pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. The Data Card anticipates the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, which the United Nations adopted in 2005 as ‘a fitting recognition for road accident victims and their families’ and which falls on the third Sunday in November.

In 2024, the goals of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims continue to be: to honor all those killed and seriously injured on the roads, to recognize the critical work of emergency services, to draw attention to the legal response to negligent road deaths and injuries, to advocate for a suitably serious response, to ensure better support for road traffic victims and their families, to promote evidence-based actions to prevent further incidents, and, finally, to raise public awareness about the urgency of avoiding more road traffic deaths and injuries.
