Social inclusion and health

The theme comprises the interventions aimed at improving the social and occupational inclusion of disadvantaged groups, investments in social services and health infrastructure (kindergartens, requalification of residential and semi-residential facilities and services for elderly and disabled people). In addition it includes interventions for housing policies (public housing and social housing), infrastructures and services for health, interventions to increase the active and healthy aging and to foster active inclusion, also with aim to promote equal opportunities and active participation.

Increasing of childcare services

The percentage of children under 3 who used childcare services in Italy grew from 11.6% in 2004 to 13.7% in 2020.
In the 8 regions of Southern Italy in 2004 it was 4.4% and in 2020 it reached 5.9%.

Children aged 0-3 years who have used childcare services (nursery, nursery schools, or supplementary and innovative services) out of the total population aged 0-2 (percentage)

Regional Poverty Index

The relative poverty index defines the share of people living below the poverty line, and in Italy it rose from 13% in 2013 to 14.8% in 2021.
In the South and Islands in 2013 it was 23.7% and in 2021 it increased to 25.3%.

Since 2007 up to today, the value of projects monitored and supported by cohesion policies for social inclusion and health has exceeded 20 billion euros, out of which over 11 billion concern projects financed in the 2014-2020 programming period.
