Gli interventi sono finalizzati al completamento della rete metropolitana di Palermo. Attualmente è in esercizio la tratta tra le stazioni Notarbartolo e Giachery mentre sono in corso i lavori per il prolungamento della tratta Giachery - Politeama. Gli interventi in oggetto consistono nel completamento dell'anello nella tratta Politeama - Notarbartolo e della fermata Malaspina.
